A small bite tug made of ring-grade fabric with a leather whip sewn on. The whip lets you set the tug in fast, unpredictable motion, and that kind of movement triggers a dog's prey drive far more effectively than a toy held still in your hand.
What it is made of
Sewn from ring-grade fabric (so-called nylcot) - the same material bite sleeves and large training bite tugs are made of. It stands up to intensive biting and keeps its shape well, so it encourages the dog to take a full, calm grip.
What the whip is for
The leather whip is about 75 cm long and works as an extension of your arm. You use it to run the tug along the ground, make feints and flick it upwards, and the dog chases the movement, not the object. It is the same mechanism a flirt pole uses, only on a smaller scale - good for warming up, for switching the dog on before a session and for rewarding at pace.
A size to carry with you
The tug itself is about 27 × 5 cm, and the sewn-on webbing loop about 13 cm, so the whole thing rolls up into a pocket or behind your belt. It works as a reward in obedience, in scent work and in protection, when you do not want to carry a large bite roll.
How to use it
The whip is a tool for guiding the toy, not for hitting the dog. After the grips, end the game with tug or by letting the dog have the bite tug, so that the dog wins and does not just chase. Put the tug away after the session - left out for solo play, it quickly loses its value as a reward and wears out faster.
