The ULTRA-PLUS training prong collar by Herman Sprenger - a German maker with more than 150 years of history, whose equipment is the standard in professional dog training worldwide.

Construction and how it works

The pressure is spread over the side plates on both sides of the dog's neck. All links are rounded, with no sharp edges. A semi-slip chain runs through the collar and limits the tightening to its own length - the correction is precise and controlled. The leash clips to the ring on the chain.

Centre ClickLock buckle

In this model the ClickLock buckle takes the place of the centre plate. You put the collar on and take it off without pulling it over the dog's head, which matters with dogs that have a large head circumference. The catch has a built-in safeguard against accidental opening. The links clipped into the ClickLock face away from the dog's larynx, so there is no pressure on the larynx at that point.

Short links, stronger wire

This version combines shorter 3 cm links with 3 mm wire. Shorter links on a thicker wire allow a more precise correction and are an alternative to the 2.25 mm prong collar. It suits very active dogs for whom 2.25 mm can be too weak - the manufacturer gives the Malinois as an example here.

Curogan

Curogan is a copper and tin alloy in a red-gold colour, completely free of nickel - the metal that most often causes allergic reactions in dogs with sensitive skin. The material does not rust and is resistant to corrosion. Because of its high copper content, the collar naturally darkens over time; you can restore the original shade with polishing paste. Curogan wears slightly faster than steel, so check the condition of the links regularly and replace the collar when signs of wear appear.

Size adjustment

You can adjust the collar circumference to your dog's neck by adding or removing links - always an even number.

Important - for use during training only

This prong collar is intended for on-leash work during active training. It should not be used during free running, transport or while the dog is unsupervised.
