A Herman Sprenger fur saver chain (chain collar) from the German maker in Burgundy, painted in our workshop. Choose 3 mm wire with a medium 2.5 cm link in the classic weave or a long link in the light version, or thick 4 mm wire for large, strong dogs, with a short 2 cm or long 4 cm link. Under the paint is Sprenger's original factory chain.
Painted to order
This product is made to order. Painting takes 2 working days. We paint every chain for a specific customer, in full, including the end rings. The shade on screen may differ slightly from the colour in real life.
Which link to choose on 3 mm wire
The medium 2.5 cm link is the classic everyday chain: for walks, for the show ring and for obedience work. The maker recommends 3 mm wire for medium dogs.
The long link in the light version has fewer contact points than a dense weave, so it breaks and pulls out less hair, and the whole chain is noticeably lighter. The maker recommends this model for dogs with long, delicate coats.
Which link to choose on 4 mm wire
The short 2 cm link lies closer and more evenly on the neck, and the chain looks finer. The maker notes that with links this short the chain runs well through the ring. It does, however, have more contact points with the coat than the long link.
The long 4 cm link has fewer contact points than a dense weave, so it breaks and pulls out less hair. The maker recommends it for dogs with long, delicate coats, and the thick 4 mm wire keeps its full strength.
Goes on over the head
The chain has no snap hook. It goes on over the dog's head, and the two end rings take the lead. A simple, classic build with no extra parts.
How to choose the length
Measure your dog's neck circumference and add 3-5 cm. Then measure the head at its widest point, across the ears and cheekbones. The chain has no fastening and goes on over the head, so on dogs with a very broad head, such as an American Staffordshire terrier, a boxer, a bulldog or a pug, it is the head circumference that decides, not the neck. In that case pick a length no smaller than the head circumference, even if the neck measurement points to a size or two less. The length given is the total length, including the end rings. The lengths available for each wire and link are listed in the table at the top.
Not sure which length to choose?
If you are torn between two sizes, or the head circumference comes out larger than the longest length available, write to us and we will help you choose.
No returns or exchanges
We paint personalised products to your order, so they are not subject to return or exchange (Article 38(1)(3) of the Polish Consumer Rights Act). This does not affect complaints. Details are in the Returns Policy.
Coating on moving parts
The coating may wear over time where the lead clips on and wherever metal touches metal. This is a normal sign of use. Scuffs, scratches and damage caused by chewing or incorrect use are not defects either.
