A fur saver with a snap hook by Herman Sprenger - a German maker with more than 150 years of history, whose equipment is the standard in professional dog training worldwide.

Adjusting with the snap hook

You set the collar size with the snap hook - clip it into the link you choose and the chain fits your dog's neck. As your dog grows, you let the collar out without swapping to a bigger size. The leash clips into the ring at the end of the chain. The maximum neck circumference is 42 cm for the 45 cm size and 47 cm for the 50 cm size.

If your dog's head is wider than the neck, also measure the head circumference at its widest point, across the ears and cheekbones. A chain you want to put on over the head without unclipping the snap hook cannot be shorter than that circumference.

Medium 2 cm link

The links are 2 cm long with 3 mm wire. They are smooth and rounded, with no sharp edges. This link size works well for medium and larger dogs.

Curogan

Curogan is a red-gold coloured alloy of copper and tin that contains no nickel at all - the metal most likely to cause allergic reactions in dogs with sensitive skin. It does not rust and resists corrosion. Sprenger recommends it especially for dogs with allergies and dogs with light or white coats, where a steel collar can discolour the hair. Because of its high copper content the collar naturally darkens over time; polishing paste brings back the original tone. Curogan wears slightly faster than steel, so check the links regularly and replace the collar when signs of wear appear.
