The lightest Herman Sprenger fur saver, with 2 mm wire and the Sprenger snap hook. The manufacturer made it for small breeds from 30 cm of neck circumference. Herman Sprenger is a German maker with more than 150 years of history, whose equipment is the standard in professional dog training worldwide.
Put on like a collar, not over the head
The Sprenger snap hook clips into any link of the chain. You never pull the collar over your dog's head and you set the size yourself, link by link. The same chain stays with your dog from puppy to adult, because it grows along with them.
Which dog it suits
The 2 mm wire is the thinnest version in the family. The manufacturer designed it for smaller breeds, starting from 30 cm of neck circumference. The chain is clearly lighter than the 3 and 4 mm versions, so a small dog does not carry a weight meant for a shepherd.
How to choose the length
Next to the total length we give the maximum neck circumference at which the chain still closes. Measure your dog's neck at its widest point just behind the ears and choose the version whose maximum circumference is larger than your measurement, so there is room for adjustment. For this version the manufacturer also advises adding at least 2.5 cm to the neck circumference to allow for adjustment.

If your dog's head is wider than the neck, also measure the head circumference at its widest point, across the ears and cheekbones. A chain you want to put on over the head without unclipping the snap hook cannot be shorter than that circumference.
Uncoated steel
Stainless steel copes with rain, mud and swimming, does not rust and rinses clean under running water. In daily use it lasts longer and is easier to care for than nylon or leather. The steel is not coloured, so the colour stays stable for the whole life of the chain and does not stain a light coat.
